Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By creating an account or using StorySeeker, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service. These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and StorySeeker.

2. Service Description

StorySeeker provides AI-powered interview coaching tools including real-time transcription, follow-up question suggestions, smart notes with "story gold" flagging, and post-interview analysis. The service is designed for documentary filmmakers, podcast hosts, journalists, and other interview professionals.

3. Eligibility & Geographic Availability

You must be at least 18 years of age to use StorySeeker. By using the service, you represent that you meet this age requirement.

StorySeeker is primarily offered to users in Canada and the United States. Users from other jurisdictions may use the service at their own discretion, provided that doing so complies with their local laws and regulations.

4. User Accounts

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You must provide accurate information when creating an account. You may not share your account with others or use another person's account without permission. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree to use StorySeeker in compliance with all applicable laws. You may not:

• Use the service for any unlawful purpose or to violate any laws in your jurisdiction.
• Record or transcribe conversations without obtaining all required consents from participants, as required by applicable recording consent laws.
• Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the source code of StorySeeker.
• Use automated means (bots, scrapers) to access the service.
• Resell, redistribute, or sublicense the service without written permission.
• Upload content that is illegal, defamatory, or infringes on the rights of others.

6. Your Content & Intellectual Property

You retain full ownership of your interview content, transcripts, and notes. StorySeeker does not claim any ownership rights over your content.

By using StorySeeker, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to process your content solely for the purpose of providing the service (e.g., transcription, AI analysis). This license terminates when you delete your content or close your account.

Voluntary Data Sharing: If you opt in to sharing your interview data for product improvement (as described in our Privacy Policy), you grant StorySeeker an additional license to use that data for training and improving our AI models. You may revoke this consent at any time through your Account Settings, and we will cease using newly submitted data going forward.

7. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

StorySeeker uses artificial intelligence, including services provided by OpenAI (and potentially other providers in the future), to generate coaching suggestions, follow-up questions, and analysis. You acknowledge that:

• AI-generated suggestions are provided as creative aids and should not be relied upon as professional, legal, or editorial advice.
• AI outputs may not always be accurate, complete, or appropriate for your specific context.
• You are solely responsible for how you use AI-generated suggestions in your interviews and published work.
• StorySeeker is not liable for any consequences arising from reliance on AI-generated content.

8. Subscription, Billing & Refunds

Free trial accounts include a one-time allocation of recording time. Paid plans are billed on a recurring basis through Stripe. You can cancel your subscription at any time from your Account Settings or through the Stripe billing portal.

Upon cancellation, you will retain access to paid features until the end of your current billing period. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact us at storyseeker.app@gmail.com for assistance.

9. Feedback & Suggestions

We welcome and encourage feedback, feature requests, and suggestions. You can submit feedback through the "Submit Feedback" feature in your Account Settings or by emailing us directly.

By submitting feedback, you grant StorySeeker a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual license to use, modify, and incorporate your feedback into our products and services without obligation to compensate you.

10. Limitation of Liability

StorySeeker is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, StorySeeker and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of revenue, or loss of interview opportunities, arising from your use of the service.

Our total aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to the service is limited to the amount you have paid to StorySeeker in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless StorySeeker, its operators, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your use of the service, your violation of these terms, or your violation of any rights of a third party (including interview subjects' privacy or consent rights).

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account if you violate these terms or engage in conduct that we determine to be harmful to the service or other users. You may close your account at any time by contacting us. Upon termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately, and we will delete your data in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

13. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification at least 30 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the service after the effective date of changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

14. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms of Service are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Any disputes arising from or relating to these terms or your use of StorySeeker shall be resolved through the courts of competent jurisdiction in the Province of Ontario, Canada. You agree to submit to the personal jurisdiction of such courts.

15. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.
